Maybe you can set the limit of minimum chars to 2 or even 0?

The following words are either very common, too long, or too short and were not included in your search : Meh

*push* I also recognized that if I search for an IP and just type in the first 2 numbers, I won't get any result.

For example:
Search string: 77.49
0 results
belongs to chef
http://www.fp-alliance.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3365

2nd example:
Search string: ITA
0 results
belongs to all ITA(Gis) members and for example AleFiGoITA
http://www.fp-alliance.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3033

If it's possible to change this behaviour, that would be awesome, because like this, the search function is pretty useless...

Ty for reducing the limit. Are there any news about the other issue? I still don't get any results for "ITA" or the beginning of an IP...

Well i need to look into that to see if it even allows it that short, will update as soon as posible

If you search for IP ranges (like on your example), search them like this;

77.49.*

That gave me one result, aka chef
