Hi, I think it would be a good idea to have a download center on this website, where you can download for example " sw4t colorizer" or some custom maps and maby xfire and teamspeak (i know you have links to that but it would be easier this way)

Well, There's many factors that effect that,
It will be a must that there will be a download manager which has high upload speed which is able to keep updated with all the applications and download them to his computer and then upload them to SOG Website Server which isn't really easy as for example Xfire makes an update every month or something....so it can be a pain in a part....
But i guess that higher ranked members will be able to help you with that :)
How about a locked download forum with all the programs in it, first need to check if it still can be added
but whats the point if its locked?
It can be added yes...but it will be usually attatchments with posts...
Or a php download centre added to VB
sounds like it could be more trouble than its worth... theres always the master of the world the good old :google:

Well, there's also another thing to consider. The official distributor of the software have to agree to us distributing their software first.
Before then, we can't host any official downloads. We're already violating a rule, that's commonly broken though ; we're not allowed to "deep link" as in link directly to the download page, which is coincidently not the index page of the website. In fact, linking is only allowed to any home pages front site, due to it being each sites individual responsibility to state their terms of usage to their users, and by bypassing their front site, you may actually bypass their terms of usage.
Hence, it's allowed to link to e.g. www.handysoftware.com but not to www.handysoftware.com/download. :)
However, like I stated it's a very commonly broken rule, and most sites take that fact into account when creating a download site, which is why you at most official pages today have to click "Download" and then see the terms of usage. :)
I don't see the point in having a download center here though. It'll only lag the site, and like Viper stated, there's google, and consider that we actually link people straight to where they need to go, if they have the need. It's not our job to inform the general public of the internet where to get i.e. Teamspeak, or to provide that service to them. :)
Thanks for the idea though :)
Sounds like a nice idea if someone has some spare bandwidth to share *Hints at tc :p* and a special page :)

Well, I wouldnt mind hosting it either, but I don't see the point, and above all - it HAS to be legal first. :)
If this truly is wanted, then I guess I could host it aswell.
Means using dif host for one page :s

Nah, just a link on forum to Download center and then a php page that follow the theme of sog-team.co.uk but is hosted elsewhere. Just that page. :) But I don't really see the point in this idea, overall. :p
Theres no need for locked forums or links to other download centers etc
I can code something very easily for our website where they can be uploaded / downloaded from another FTP server or even store them on our sites FTP.
Nice idea by the way

Was waiting for this ;)
Well, this can be a good idea, however, as Nico stated you have to keep in mind the rules about software like TS/Xfire, as they don't like for software to be downloaded from other sites, unless you ask for permission, you can link to the DL, however, it would be better to link to the Terms of Usage for that software first and the user can find the DL link themselves.
If we can get the proper permissions then I say give it a try, other wise don't bother.
lol like x-fire cares
, as long as they use it, the yhave to make a registration anyway.

They care...
Everybody cares, once they realize how much money they could make from filing lawsuits against everybody :p
Besides, it's not really that hard. I'm simply emailing them saying you'd like to help then in getting their program out there, as well as convine your own users, and hence you'd like to politely ask for their permission in doing so.
Usually, they'll say yes even for just asking, rather than just going ahead :)
O who cares :p
Just uplaod the damn program :p
hehe :D

i like the idea, hope they will make a as you say " download center" :)
The programs aren't even hosting at there onw servers lol
Well, true, guess it's because they are too cheap, but one reason why I haven't uploaded the file from TS Client to my site is because I'm a ATHP with them and I'm a bigger target for them since they have my IP :(
It's not a bad idea though, but there's always a risk involved I guess, but it might not actually be that great of risk.
Well the copyright aside what to host... i once wanted to add a download center with latest Demo's etc. but then i thought it might be even better to just transfer people to the step before the download which is legal but linking to the file itself and never going to their page is not allowed.
So i think this is a good idea but it should be thought about a little more and see what people would really want to see on this proposed Download Center :)
