View Full Version : Live auditions
hi!
I have just had an idea for some on-air auditions on the radio. Listening to music is fun, but I have my iTunes and my fav playlists .I have been looking for something similar on the previous threads. No results. Oh but getting off topic.
So taking it all together it would be nice to have some of that stuff. I know it might be hard from the tech point of view, but Wes can do everything.

*sniff*, *sniff*, smell spam?
I'm thinking about something similar to what we have today. Public radios dont only play music but they have some interwiews, live auditions, news dont know what else.
The main idea is to put on air some voices not only music.
No ghost, not spam. Maby dinner??

I did consider that at some point when I saw the DJ recruiting stuff. I'd only be interested, if it was something like being an actual radio show host, or whatever those people call themselves. Not to sit around talking alot, just to present the tracks you'd play and so on.
However, considering some of us struggle to hear what each other are saying on TS due to poor quality, I don't think it would be good on the radio. :)
I still aint getting the live audition stuff, but I catch your drift with the rest of it, and I like the idea as well. Also, some commercial blocks for SOG would be great, but they should be ULTRA short, like "You're listing to SOG radio - Now JOIN!". :)
Making recorded commercials and slogans and stuff is possible, due to the ability to remaster the recording to enchance the quality. I dunno how the recording quality would be "live" through the radio, but my concern is that people will have to turn their speakers down whenever someone talks :p

Most Likely a SCOTCH egg. Or maybe a MURRAY mint.

I do believe that 'scotch mint' makes more sense. :)
Regarding the radio, I was wondering... do any of you really listen to the radio? I personally would not mind being interviewed, however, if there's no one around I would just be talking to myself.

I hope you're not saying our TS Server has poor quality, because that's NOT true. I think that recording an interview of someone on TS is possible, I don't think it would be an issue, except you'd have to make the file smaller maybe.
I actually do like this Idea, I have thought about it before, but haven't taken the time to try and get anything started. It takes planning to do a "Live" show, as what you say is broad casted to the server immediately.
@Enders, I listen to it, when I'm not hosting.

Yeah i think the idea is cool though. Well if we want to think about it seriously, we need to think who should interview who, what topic, and not making it too long (some music is also good ;p not only "Blah, blah, blah..." :D) I think the idea is great, and we should make any ideas for this one
i was actualy thinking more of who ever is broadcasting the radio at the time could maybe introduce the song thats going to be played?
i mean and then maybe at a specific time announce |SOG| Games (Events) etc...
good idea?:p

The thing that ruins any decent radio show is always the presenter. DJ's more interested in their own opinions than just playing the tunes, talking over the start or end, or, worst case, ALL THE WAY THROUGH songs, interviews with people you don't know about subjects you could care less about, etc. I don't think this is the best idea, but as I seem to be in the minority, knock yerselfs out!! ;)

Well, that would depend on the presenter ;)
I listen to my favorite radio station all day (at work) because their presenters are funny, and doesn't talk too much, and they have alot of good comedy clips. The music is the same as everywhere else, so... :p

TC, not I'm not blaming the quality of our TS server, it's fine. The problem comes with peoples headsets/mics with background noise, breaking up, hard limiting, overamplification, etc. It just doesn't sound as close to a human voice as it should, and that can be very annoying between music. :)
If the quality of a presenters recordings can infact be verifyed before had (just so we know), then I'm all for the idea, I'd just hate to see the radio ruined because of some scratchy voice being on alot.
I actually considered applying for DJ, untill I found out it was "just" about playing a set of tracks. I was thinking more of a radio host kinda thing, with requests, interviews, greets and shout outs, notificating/reminders of upcoming events/todays birthdays (e.g. the host could ask the people having birthday what their favorite song is, and play that at some specific point in time, e.g. 19:00 on every birthday. Even though the person wouldn't be listening it would still be fun for those who are. It could also include some global news (but only funny stuff, not the regular news.)
For instance... I clearly remember a year back, a radio host told a news story outside of the news report. It was about a house coming close to being on fire, because a stubborn woman wanted to get rid of some spiders in her garage. She had ended up spraying something flamable on them, and then later she got the idea to melt their web, but that was covered in the flamable stuff so she torched her garage over 3 spiders.
I know it's a sad story, but it really was kinda funny still. And stories like that, and also more general would be great material as well. E.g. in shape of a 5 minute newsreport each day, where funny news would be mentioned.
A lot of cool stuff could be done with this, and would make the radio more desireable to listen (and keep listening) to, and that would improve the spirits here at SOG, and also improve newcomers already positive outlook on SOG even further. So to me, it's a great idea. :)
:whs: I totally agree with you Nicoeise, oh and I'm glad at least some of you like the idea and thats its clear of what i was thinking about. Maby we could have some kind of program like from 21:00 down. When you know the program its easyier to decide to listen or not. Maby some rutine everyweek interviews of 1 of the members, some kind of headlines.
Still waiting for Matts opinion.
Well, I would do that if I knew when there would actually be someone listening. Because if no one is going to be listening then it's a waste of time, I do like the Idea, but the lack of listeners makes me think twice, and yes I know something good has to be on before listeners will come, but that's not always the case.

Yeah, I've thought about that aspect too.
I found the solution simple though ; Scheduele it at some specific time of day ( not even for each day, if not possible... Could be just wednesdays at 1800-1900 GMT. Could also be different hosts/timeslots/days, so more than one host participates.
Once a scheduele is made, give it a go for 2 weeks. Then people will know it's there, and will know to listen if they like it and want it to continue :)
