This error happened to me last night. That's the reason for my double post in Nike's recruitment thread.
Is this connected with the changes that Matt made ??
Is there any way to avoid this ??

Not you.. :)
Guessing I should get a little more usefull for the admins :
I've encounted the specific error mentioned by Nike, as well as one with a different number at the end, which I can't remember.
PHP Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in C:\Domains\sog-team.co.uk\wwwroot\forum\includes\class_core.php on line 371
This happens on the following systems (All I've tested);
- ??? Laptop, running XPpro x32, ServicePack 2, IE 6.00.0029 or so.
- My regular stationary :
• Pentium 4 EMT64 (HyperThreading) 3,2 GHz
• 2560 MB DDR533 RAM, dual channel
•3072/512 DSL line, with dynamic IP and static IP from router to PC
• XP Professional x32 Service Pack 2
• Mozilla FireFox version 2.00.12 or so.
Another stationary :
• Core2Duo6400 @ 2,13 GHz
• 2048 MB DDR(insanely fast), dualchannel
• Don't know the line, but speedtest.net says : 3501/650
• Vista x64
• IE 7.whatever
The latest PC has just gotten upgraded to XP Pro x64, and I haven't experienced the error so far, but haven't really used the forums alot on it. They appear to load very fast on this, though.
I've also seen a post submit error, where the forum just hangs, and keeps saying "Please wait, submitting quick reply". Nothings happens, and at the end, you get 2 posts, no matter if you F5 you're way out of it, or use ESC. Sometimes that error switches to the error mentioned in this thread, but much later (about 4 minutes or so), which is why I'm including it.
Attempted to clear all internet related files, E.g. temp. internet files, cookies, etc. No luck, error persists.
If I can be of assistance with any further information, then please - let me know.
Sounds more like a programming error or that the webserver is reacting too slow.
This is often a problem on websites.
Probably this has nothing to do with your personal computers/browsers.
I think it can happen anytime so far it happened 2 times to me one time opening the forum page and secon while posting in bad players.

Happened to me about 5 times, usualy when entering the forums. Always thought my connection just was too slow.
Its an error with the PHP v5 service on the webserver. Classcore.php is a vital file to vB but heavily called upon too. Hence if the PHP service on our server fails or is slow, the error will occur moreso with this file.
Not much we can do as the service is set to restart after.

Restart after what ? The error occuring ?
Because when I get the error (again trying to help), it keeps coming for a period, and then goes away. For instance, I would browse the forums fine, then all the sudden get the error at a random interval (5 page loads in between or 12 pageloads in between, whatever), but for a continued duration, e.g. 1½ hours. Then it disappears again.
So if the service is restarting itself after errors, then that isn't fixing it =/
It appears to happen under server load, the more load, the slower forums, the more errors. Which makes sence, when dealing with a timeout error.
Is there any way to make the forums work in general faster, to avoid this error ?
I'll be willing to host some files for you, for instance, if that helps? (I'm thinking various stuff like banners, menus, site referrers display, etc, so the forum loads from more servers running "parallel" if you will). Does that help any ?

Damn, I'm getting good at beeing an MCSA certified IT guy....
Just a tip: if this is a service (and I don't know how mutch access you have to the server itself) then you can easily write down a script that runs on specific times. It is only a workaround but an effective one. You can restart the service itself to stress down the server a bit.
For the rest: if you need any expertise at all, just mail me and I'll look what I can do for you. And if I don't know it then maybe one of my 3100 colleagues do know it.

That's being worked on already, I believe. I suggested it a few weeks ago, when we discussed this problem on the HM board. :) Dunno if there's been any results of it yet though, but we'll see . :)
