Heh, a fun little topic. Why did you choose the name that you chose?
Some of the names are quite obvious, but how about the not so obvious ones?

I'll go first :D

Has anyone watched the movie Windtalkers? The main character in that movie was Sergeant Joe Enders. He pwned so many guys in that movie. He ends up dying, but I shall carry on his name!

Also it sounds cool. :P

Wildfire
19-01-07, 03:43 AM
I never chose Pyros rather it was chosen for me... when I was 6yrs of age I nearly burnt down my parents first house or rather set fire to my bedroom. After that I became fascinated with the element but not to be compared to an arsonist... there just psychopathic.
This fire burns within  which brings me to second half.

The wildfire part was added later due to my impatient, determined, quick temper, highly vengeful, spiteful and deceitful personality :o

Erm... yeah.

Ghost MacRoth
20-01-07, 07:36 PM
I'm Ghost from back in the day of Falcon 4.0 on the PC. I died so damn often that I had to be some sort of undead to keep climbing back into the cockpit! The MacRoth was added when I went online and discovered how popular the name ghost is. It is a referance to the comic strip Slaine from 2000ad, his second name was MacRoth, and I thought 'who the hell else in this world would call themselves that!'

Detonic
16-02-07, 01:14 PM
Detonic was the first thing that I see when I suscribe to the WON on swat 3. Detonic is a brand of cheap airsoft gun :)

Ziggy72
17-02-07, 04:29 AM
My name comes from being a long time Bowie fan - Ziggy from the album Ziggy Stardust, and the 72 because Ziggy is a very popular name to use, so, of course I had to add a number. The album was released in 1972 :)

Love all these tales of how people got their names - Pyros Wildfire is a somewhat disturbing tale, dont you think? And respect to GOE - "Grupo de Opera??es Especiais" - sounds so much cooler to say SOG like that! So what is "Special Operations Group" in other languages? Over to you, troops...

Asakura
17-02-07, 12:30 PM
Asakura is taken from japanese names. "Asakura" was chosen because of the character "Ryoko Asakura" from the anime "Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya":

http://www.geocities.com/novobe/asakura02.jpg

Asakura is a nice and pretty girl, rated AA+ by the boys at her school, but later in the series she turns into the big bloody contrary... ^^;

Would have other nicknames to choose right now, but I don't want to change my nickname every two months. XD

Gazza

Gazza -> Well its "short" for Gary, which is my name.
Thankfully we have moved on from the time when people questioned why i was called gazza when my name isn't "Paul" or "Gascoigne" - a famous england player who had the nickname gazza because of his surname- but he was FRAUD!! You can only be a Gazza if your name is Gary :)

My xfire name is mrgazza purely becuase someone I know always calls me Mr Gaz for some reason.

Freeezer
07-04-08, 04:10 PM
I'm Freeezer, and it has nothing to do with the fridge :p. My nickname is from Dragon Ball Z series. I really liked character called "Freeza", even though he was bad, he was cool drawed and had cool energy disc, which he could manipulate. I wanted to have a polish name of this character, "Freezer", but when I was doing my first e-mail account, nickname "freezer" was already in use, so I made a "mistake" in it, adding one more 'e', and here it is...Freeezer. It stayed till today :)

Nicoleise
07-04-08, 04:54 PM
Well, would be sad to open it, if no one added anything

Nicoleise. Nico is short for my first name Nicolai, and leise has two meanings. When I was little, my family would call me laise, being the last part of my first name, with an se ending on it. :p It's pronounced the same way as leise. And also, in 2004 I decided to open a photography/webdesign company. When it came down to choosing a name, I went for leise, because it looked prettier than laise. :p

So Leise is from my nick name and the name of my company, LEISE Foto, and the Nico is the short version of my first name.

And it's pronouced Nicolajse, not Nicolise :D

Now you know :p

Selena
08-04-08, 06:42 AM
I'm not new, and I guess everyone can tell where I got my name from, but I'll just be a good girl and post it anyways.

My "Trinity" name is fetched from the movie trilogy "The Matrix". Carrie Ann Moss does a great job with that character. I have tried getting rid of it through the years, but that just didn't happen. Everyone called me Trinity anyways (not that I mind anymore, I do really feel like it suits me).

I've had a few names through the years, most of them action-heroines of some sort.

My main name:
"Trinity" (The Matrix)

Old and forgotten names:
"DKS" (X-Files, can anyone guess who?)
"Witchblade" (the comic)

Temporary names still in use:

Seldom:
"SniperWolf" (Metal Gear Solid)
"April" (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles)

Frequent:
"Natsuki" (Mai-HiME)
"Shizuru" (Mai-HiME)
"MissPhoenix" (original)

I also do tend to pick names derived from ancient Norse, Greek and Roman mythology from time to time, depending on my mood. I do research on names before choosing them as there is always a thought, an idea or a feeling behind the ones I pick.

Mike
08-04-08, 06:56 AM
Very nice Trinity :) (I was going to use Morpheus but Law came before I saw The Matrix :p)

Well im hopefully getting into law enforcement soon so Law became my online nickname as I've wanted to become a police officer since I was like 14 ;) and the min. age is pretty much 21 in ME and most of the US

Well, tc is my first and last initials, and the transporter is what I started using in Sept of 06 when I started in the first clan I was in.

Why? Well I was using tcloser, because I thought when I started playing that I was a loser because I was always getting killed :p but then I started using tcTransporter because I like to help achieve the mission, like in VIP, where you have to transport or guard the VIP as you go to the exit.

BlizZaRD^

BlizZaRD^. Dont remeber, it was about 4 years i started to use it :P BUT ITS NOT FROM "Blizzard Entertainment ( WoW ) "

IcepickFIA
08-04-08, 03:39 PM
My nickname, Icepick, is from an alias generator :o

I've used it since I started playing games online. But too many people call themselves Icepick.

Too make sure my nick stayed unique, I added the FIA. It is from the game Operation Flashpoint, and it stands for Freedom In Arms. Operation Flashpoint is a MilSim set in the cold war, and the FIA were a resistance group of islanders, mostly farmers and the likes who banded together to protect their homes from the invading Russians.

DKS, which later adapted to my clan name (as I had no imagination, but of course changed the meaning of it) is short for Dana Katherine Scully. I am an X-Files fan, and I believe I've only missed a handful of episodes from the 9 seasons.

Both characters have middle names, and so her partner is Fox William Mulder. *grins* Yes, I used to be a total nerd about that show.

Biodome
09-12-10, 05:09 PM
Sorry for renewing a 2 year old thread, but I noticed that only ~1% nicknames are explained here... And It would be good to know how did you all come up with your nicknames.

Well, so I start with mine's... The first time I became aware of the word "Biodome" was a lot of years ago (maybe 3 or 4 - don't remember exactly) when I was playing a Multiplayer Space-Combat-Colonization game called "Starport: Galactic Empires (http://www.starportgame.com/)". In that game you colonized a planet by building a Biodome on it...And I loved to colonize planets :P - That's reason 1

Reason 2... From all the stuff I learn at school, I mostly like Biology. That's because I love nature, science, and, of course, love looking trough a microscope at those small cute creatures :D.

Reason 3... The word "Biodome" just sounds very nice...Biodome, Biodome - you never get bored of saying that :P.

09-12-10, 05:44 PM
Sorry for renewing a 2 year old thread, but I noticed that only ~1% nicknames are explained here... And It would be good to know how did you all come up with your nicknames.

Nice found, so no worries :) The origin of my name is already explained at my introduction thread (http://www.sog-team.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12799), but as it is also almost 2 years old, i bet not all read that.. So here it is:

Hidroncs is a real, but non-used hungarian word. It' means: piece of a wrecked bridge. ( Híd = bridge, wreck = roncs ). I only heard this word 1 time in my life, when we watch TV at the office, and there was a report about the war at the Balkan. The report was about a bombed famous bridge, and last sentence of this report was: now divermen picking up "hidroncs(es)" from the bottom of the river. One of my friend just came in the room at this last sentence, and as he never heard this word before, he stops for a second, think about it and ask us: "Hidroncs??? What kind of animal is that???". I laught until cry. In the same afternoon, i must register somewhere on the internet. My other nick, what i used before, was ready used there, by somebody else. So then comes the idea, and Hidroncs is born ... Now u all know: Hidroncs is a piece of a wrecked bridge, or a strange animal :)

Eico
09-12-10, 06:30 PM
Well, When I was in the military college in Uruguay, some guys started to call my Eico ,a short form of my real name Federico. So when I started playing combat games on internet and I had to choose a nick I used Lt. Eico, and some time later I changed it for the nickname that actually I use allmost everywhere, Commander Eico (or Com.Eico sometimes). That's the name I was using the first time I've played in a SOG server, and when I wanted to join, I've decided it was really too long if tags where added so I've registered here only with Eico...
In the last games I've played I've changed it again, because I'm a sergeant in the army so in Battlefield Bad Company 2 you can find me by Sgt.Eico...

Well when i started to play swat the default name ofc was "PLAYER". after being kick several times i finally realised that it was the name. so for easy i went with PlayerX coz i only had to type 1 more letter, i also felt it was a generation X, subject X type mystery to it. After a wee while i personalised it with PlayerX_Scotland. Then after getting annoyed with all the other "players" out there i held a poll here (http://www.sog-team.com/forum/showthread.php?t=14776) on SOG for a new name. XmarksTheScot being suggested by Aaron and being my favourite of the bunch as it still has my "X" in it and Scotland. So there ya go :D

blockade
09-12-10, 09:18 PM
well, i choose my name more based to the fact that no suspect will get passed me lol.. and it is a nice term, i would say so and it is not to assertive but im not a camper as my title may lead you to believe XD..

A blockade is an effort to cut off food, supplies, war material or communications from a particular area by force, either in part or totally. A blockade should not be confused with an embargo or sanctions, which are legal barriers to trade, and is distinct from a siege in that a blockade is usually directed at an entire country or region, rather than a fortress or city. Also, a blockade historically took place at sea, with the blockading power seeking to cut off all maritime transport from and to the blockaded country; although stopping all land transport to and from an area may also be considered a blockade.

Kirjakukka
09-12-10, 09:35 PM
Kirjakukka... Kirjakukka, Kirjakukka, Kirjakukka.... Why did I come up with this name LOL.

This all began on long, long time ago... Probably when I was 9 years old.... So 8 years ago.......

Back then, I and my friend were making a e-mail for me (I don't remember for what, maybe for Skype. Dunno if Skype was already made in 2002-2003, but anywayz). There my old friend came up with a name. I don't remember the whole name, but it had "Kirja" on it - Kirja is Finnish and it means just simply "Book" in English. I just remember that part cos it was so... random, lol.

So, first it was only in my first e-mail. And then that "Kirja" kind of died... I never used it in anywhere else. I used many different names and so forth - but didn't use Kirja anymore.

After many years it became alive again. On January 2007, I got Battlefield 2. And, don't know why, but I wrote my account's name as "Kirjatoukka" (Kirjatoukka = Bookworm).

So, I used that Kirjatoukka name and some other names for some time, but then, about in year 2009 I wanted to be kind if "individual" with the name. There's many "Kirjatoukkas aka bookworms" in the internet - but I wanted my name to be special, unique, which no other human would use. Then, I have no idea where the hell I came up with it, I just added "Kukka" in the end of the name. As "Kirjakukka". Meaning "Book flower" (Kirja = flower).

I think I invented that name earlier than in 2009, but I never used it in the pass. But yeah, I'm using it now as an unique name, and I hope it will stay like it. :)
