"Battlefield 2 is a great game. After playing for quite a few hours (often shirking other responsibilities), I and pretty much everyone else here at IGN will heartily recommend BF2 to fans of the series and beg those who haven't played before or didn't like the original to give the demo a whirl (http://www.xfire.com/files/482/). Any game that can make a large group of editors take a Saturday and play for 14 hours straight until 4:30 in the morning has to be pretty awesome... It's just not perfect.
Battlefield 2 is set in the near future, where plausible conflicts between the US and both China and the Middle East Coalition (a fictional faction) flare up. Most of the battle locations seem to center around oil fields, refineries or dams, which makes a kind of sense given the conflicts." - IGN.com (http://pc.ign.com/articles/627/627218p1.html)

"In Battlefield 2, you play as one of several countries competing for control over land, which serves several purposes in the game. Firstly, they are there for spawn points. When you capture a new base, you can spawn there and immediately hop in a vehicle and go on your merry way to battle. Secondly, are the goals of the game. In order to win, you must capture more than half of the spawn points and hold them so your opponents tickets, or points, decrease to zero. The more you have in your possession, the faster they decrease. If you are losing points, you need to capture spawn points to stop them from going down. Once they decrease they do not increase until a new game is started. There are some spawn points that cannot be captured and serve as a permanent base for that team; these can be seen by the red mark over them on the maps pretty obvious.
A lot of people believe the single factor that separates BF2 from other online FPS games is the inclusion of vehicles and lots of them. You can control a number of different tanks, helicopters, jets, APCs, jeeps, and many more vehicles. Most of the ground vehicles are two seaters or more. This is where teamwork plays a big part. Some tanks allow you to only drive and not fire; youll need another team member to control the turret. You can change positions in the tank on the fly, but it isnt wise if you are trying to drive and shoot at the same time." - gamershell.com (http://www.gamershell.com/pc/battlefield_2/review.html)

Well i am personally a fan of PR mod because its a near total conversion of BF2 it takes away some of the arcade things that hurt bf2 such as the UAV which is a small unmanned plane that tells players where every enemy is on their map ... which destroys any flanking or sneaking... or hiding. You operate tanks with 3 people instead of 1 and you cannot go into third person view and shooting is more deadly.
Sound is improved weapons sound different and better but that's a personal view.
Game functions are totally changed now everyone just has a standard kit and with that you can only fight as a soldier, you can ask for other kits at appointed locations such as your main base. Airplanes and tanks can only be operated by their correct equipment which is pilot and tank crew which gives you a complete uniform as seen in one of the pictures above.
Sniper, AT, machinegun, are limited supply and can only be received when you are in a squad.
In PR all flags are flag+spawn object this object which looks like sacks of army bags is a destructible spawn point if the enemy team destroys this bag you can not spawn on that flag, however a squad leader can put down a spawn bag a few 100 yards away from flags making a close enough spawn point.
much more i cant think of.............. oh and no one has a crosshair
