Dunno where to post this, Iīm doing here.
Iīm connecting to the internet with an DSL modem. After this modem is router (OvisLink IP-1000R) - one cable to my computer, 2nd cable to another router (OvisLink WT-2000R). This 2nd router is wireless and there are connected two other computers.
Now the problem - we donīt see each other in network place. How to manage this? Is it possible?
Also it is not possible to connect fully wireless because of distance and obstacles in house.
I have try to search some post in internet but I found nothings about this.
Help me if you can, please.... :s
Correct that you don't see each other through the network.
But couple of ways to make this work:
A few things that I need to know though. Is the 2nd router in the same network(IP adres), subnet mask? Are the routers firewalled? Can you connect to the internet using a pc connected to the 2nd router?
Easy way:
1. Make sure that your pc connected to the 1st router has an fixed IP adres.
2. On a pc connected to the wireless open c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\
There should be a file called hosts. Open this in notepad and fill in the IP adres of the 1st pc, press tab and fill in the name of the pc.
This file will act as an routing table for your network in the pc.
Harder way:
You said you couldn't go all the way wireless. But it is possible when you make the wireless part of the router act as a bridge. This will extent the range. You must make sure that the 2 routers are within range of eachother. And that the hardware supports bridging mode.
If you want more info or need more help, please feel free to contact me @ mz1981@live.nl
I can connect to you through a program I use at work. It only uses the internet to connect so that's the only requirement needed.
Good luck.

Is the 2nd router in the same network(IP adres), subnet mask?
So my router has IP 10.70.1.1, second 10.70.1.2, subnet mask both 255.255.255.0
Are the routers firewalled?
Yes both are firewalled (mine is allowed for incoming echo request).
Can you connect to the internet using a pc connected to the 2nd router?
Yes they can connect to the internet.
Question: Just one router is wireless?
Not sure why you would need 2 routers, however, what mz said may work, not sure as I haven't used 2 routers at once :)

You shouldn't put 2 routers behind each other.
The easy way would be to connect your computer to the wireless router, it should have 4 slots for a cable connection, and simply remove the OvisLink IP-1000R from the network. Then you are all on the same router and you'll see each other without any problems.
Another way would be to setup the WT-2000R as wireless gateway, and disable it's routing function.

What you suggest Rayden isnīt bad, but we have to drag another cable, so another holes in houses what we donīt want... :)

Eep, I was under the impression that it was in the same house.. :D
Ok, then try to set the WT-2000 as a wireless gateway and disable its routing function.
Yeah ..... :whs: didn't realize it you are providing net for 2 other houses :D

Ok, then try to set the WT-2000 as a wireless gateway and disable its routing function.
Or simpley but a Wireless Access point. These things don't provide firewalls and are excelent in use.
If you don't want to do this. Then turn off the firewall function of the WT-2000. And as I said before: edit the host file. Make's live so mutch easier using names instead of numbers.
Win XP doesn't provide it's own DNS server (which looks up the name according to the IP adres) so editing the file is therefore easier.
I use it myself to set up a VPN connection to my server at home.

He should be able to setup the router to act as one, there is no need to buy additional hardware.
Correct, but I read the post in a hury. lol
Afterward I have seen what kind of router he uses. Should be no problem for use as an access point.
