I'm not the best BF2 player, but I usually follow some rules that most other people online would disobey. If you're interested, read on :)
- Observe your surroundings, keep an eye on the mini-map, while also keeping an eye on your character - it takes some practice to master.

A tactical guide, might help you.
- When under fire, try to get into cover, or if you're exposed greatly, go crouch or prone. This minimizes your silhouette, and makes you a harder target.
- Know the weaknesses and strenghts of your current weapon. If you can manipulate your weapon's weaknesses, thats a plus :D Never go into a battle without knowning what you CAN and CAN'T do with your weapon*.
- Use grenades often, but don't nade spam (certain exceptions). Otherwise, you'll run out and not have them when you most need it.
- Have fun and keep practicing! Fun is the most important aspect (especially since you paid $20-$50 for it). Practice also helps.

I'd ramble on forever on certain tactics for certain classes, but sending you a link is faster/better...;)

* = If you need an example with this rule, post/Xfire me the name of a class/weapon and I'll [try to] find a weakness/strength for that class.

Duck & Cover, pick a sniper rifle and pick them one by one from distance and make sure u place the claymores good so no one comes up from behind and knifes you.

And the wiki you linked to is good

More BF2 Tips.

- Stay in teams and watch each others backs
- When attacking always go prone before firing. Makes you far more accurate and makes you a far harder target.
-If you are attacked and you dont know the direction fro which it came, run for cover. Dont bother going prone and looking for the threat, it'll just give the more time to zero in on your forehead.
- When low on health, dont rambo. You wont get anywhere. Its best to try and either call for a medic, or if one isnt available, then act like a scout. Dont fight, but tell your friends where the bad guys heavy armour and helicopters are. Information can be one of the greatest weapons in BF2.
- A snipers job isnt direct combat, rather gaurding flags or scouting. Your ghillie suit will give you awesome camoflague in heavy vegetation, but by itself cannot do alot. A sniper lying in grass in the middle of a field is easy to spot, but if hes in a treeline or bush its almost impossible.
- The human eye is very sensitive to movement, if you in a good position stay still. Youll be much harder to spot.
- If your a sniper, be aware of whats behind you. If your sillouhetted by the blue sky youll be spotted in a second, but if you have a bunch of tall green trees at your 6 youll stand out much less.
- This goes without saying, but when you fire the sniperrifle, the target will know roughly where the shot came from. Try to change you position after each shot and theyll never been able to zero in on your location.

Thats all i can think of for now, my head hurts lol
