After reading the above link im not sure what to say, we have gun crime, knife crime, animal cruelty and now this can all be made worse with a laser 1000 times more powerful than the laser pointer equivealance.

They can burn skin, cause instant permament blindness and cancer, is this really something that should be sold to the general public? Especially in the UK where our youth crime is already quite high?

I can see this going completely out of control and serious damage being done, some of the quotes off various social networking sites already confirm this.

And as the Trading Standards Institute cant do anything as the product is manufactured abroad i can see a real problem happening.

Companies need to think with their brain not their wallet, the potential profit of items is taking over the implications an item could cause, in this case putting lives at risk.

These products need banning in my opinion, but whats your take on the situation?

I agree 110% and completely support your post! It shouldn't be available to the general public, or anyone for that matter - things like this simply shouldn't be portable.

Not so long ago, we had some incidents in Denmark where someone was pointing a very powerfull laser at planes as they landed in Copenhagens International Airport. This actually lead to some very dangerous situations, as while the laser didn't make the pilots blind, it would still be so bright that they would loose their night vision. It was determined by operators that the laser was being used in an area 2-3km from the airport.

Products like these would not only make wild acts of terrorism WAY to easy ; they would also cause alot of possibly unintended situations, like kids going blind or aggrivated youths doing severe damage to others (it could be you...) without realizing the scope of what they are doing.

Products like these should definately not be sold, as they don't really carry any practical potential. They can light a match, but so can friction against any most other surfaces, and apart from that, there's not much benefit gained from this product.

It's just as they were to make weapons legal. Imagine buying a nice and real MP5 on ebay.
Same is here, this is too dangerous to be so easily accesible. Anyone who thinks otherwise is insane.

But that's how dumb people live on this world. They create ****, they sell it to others so they can make money, others which have **** in their heads cause in fact another **** and in the end, there is pain, suffering and even death. Pretty much Star Wars...
Laaawlz!

Imagine a scenario like this:
Rich parents, got all-having spoiled child. They allow for anything he/she wants. Now, if any of you ever met that kind of people, you know of what I say.

So now, that kid gets this laser. And disaster begins.
And 03826129080 other eamples, this is so ******* stupid they made this public. It's ok if they were to just create it, and ,maybe use it in some closed group, allowing only some reasonable people get their hands on it, but not this.

Definitely NOT for selling items like this one.

Are they stupid ? 1 month after start selling they'll have to have lots of policemans with anti-laser wearing, btw the same for all civils... maybe anti-laser vaccines too ? :lol2:

Most of the people are stupid, especially the kids, so I think we are going to see alot of ''accidents''. I think we are going to hear about this more in the future...and not in a good way.

Yes this is just bad bad news. I saw the product in question on their website and surely cannot understand what planet they are on.

Not only do they state what they are used for apart from causing damage to others, it is on sale for £135. That is total madness.

A business thinking of profit again opposed to human welfare.

Hopefully the laser doesn't penetrate mirrors :p, so I can mirror it somewhere else

I totally agree, such powerful lasers should not be available to the public. I have no problem at all with these things existing and being developed, but normally such lasers are used by properly trained people for for example scientific purposes. The public is not properly trained and most people won't even realize the dangers.

I think its more advertisement then real effect...

Btw it was not good even to make normal power laser pointer to public too. Still cause many problem, in hand of people without brain to use it in sports events etc...

More powerful gives more choice, to cause troubles. I simply can not see any good reason to make a handheld laser to public (especially powerful like this - even if i still not believe half of it).
