Hey guys 'n girls!
I thought of this today, for no apparent reason. But it's believe in popular science that we humans developed from monkeys. But who is to say that wont happen again? Would monkeys develop themselves and once more build a new species, that might resemble humans?
My question to you is not so much if that's possible, but more like ; What would you do with this new species?
Would you consider them a threat and terminate them, or would you watch them as they grew and expanded? Would you move them to a lab and study their growth?
I guess it's sorta related to the popular discussions about what we should do if aliens visited (supposing we actually have a choice or say in the matter), but this is in my opinion different because it's related to us, and because it's essentially defenseless (at first), so hypothetically it would be our call if this race would prevail us, persevere amongst us or perish.
Should that be your call to make, what would you do? :)

but surely this species would just be a variant on anotehr animal until the point that its starts to show some intelligance ast which point i think study and let it survive is the best way to go, after all we aint god and in my opinon we are here merely to take care of things :)
Sadly, the answer is already well known.
All human-like monkeys now live somehow under human control, whether it be a zoo or wildlife park, they are being monitored. given this state, it's unlikely they'll develop beyond this stage, not because it's impossible, but because it's not needed.
that's how biology works, if it isn't needed, it goes away or just doesn't happen... for example, our tails. it has been growing smaller by the generation because we don't need it for balance anymore.
however, once it DOES happen, which is the actual question, i'd welcome these "new humans" into our society, unrestricted, given they follow our laws and rules of life. i mean, what else could we do? they are humans.
a very nice theory, nico...

It seems that you think of us as beings that reached their maximum and stopped evolving. The process of evolution take an enormous amount of time, so its as good to assume we the "real" humans would evolve into something further.
Also, why stop at monkeys? If we all evolved from small organisms why wouldn't (for example) there be some new monkey, or insects or whatever. The real reason why is because since evolution depends on nearly an infinite number of variables the results are never the same. Therefore there could be some evolved organisms already present but its just that we did not notice them, or they died before they could grow in numbers so that we could call them a new species. We ourselves are witnesses of evolution every day, but we sometimes mistake that for genetics.
As to "what to do with them?". Personally, terminate. As sad as that might sound, i think that a planet can only house 1 dominant species. So, it would happen sooner or later in terms of inter-species war. For all of you that think of me as a monster, we do it every day and turn out heads as if nothing happens anyway.

I must agree with your statement there. A dual dominance is close to impossible if these "new humans" turn out in any way like us "old humans". We are too territorial. Or if you look at it as a prelude to them "growing up"; Several states would never allow such an happenstance to take place due to international security issues. Where would they live? There is less and less unoccupied space on this boat we call Earth. *chuckles* So chances are they would never actually evolve...
I think I'm wandering off topic here.. Me? If room allowed it, I would isolate them in a nature-preserve large enough for them to never realize they're in "captivity" and study them. Learn more about them, their origins, the linkage to our origins and so on.
Then when I've (or more likely me and my team) learned enough about them to interact with them without causing chaos due to technological development-differences, I would make contact and hopefully learn to co-exist.
I know.. It's a perfect-world-wannabe-scenario-thingy, but knowledge/friendship over targetpractice any day :P
I don't think the Earth can handle another species that have human-like qualities. But, maybe if they get the chance, they will evolve a better physiology and a better intelligence somehow... One less primal then current humans.
As current humans have a primal body conflicting with an "evolved" intelligence.
(Yeah, all this is probably worded crappy, but... I don't feel like making an effort.) :P
In short: We're smart and all, but not "good".
As for what I'd do? Absolutely nothing. Probably read about it in a magazine and think: "Wow, that's interesting..." Have a loose conversation about it, and then simply forget. If it became a big issue, and my involvement was needed... I would say... Terminate them. We're currently the dominant species... And we are selfish, cruel and for the most part heartless when there is something for us to gain. So if we discover that the human race can benefit from their flesh... Or capture and have them as smart pets... We probably would.
In an ideal world... We would live side by side, and perhaps they would one day help us reach the far reaches of space in person with their unmatched intelligent qualities that humans helped into existence...
Unfortunately... Unlikely.
Truth is, anything comes to Earth or evolves here more than it should, it gets pwned. I belive if it is about aliens, it would look like in "District9". Unless aliens have plasma vexus 9-zzx Cosix Guns or something - that Abrams, B2 or dam nuke can't handle. And if it is about evolving stuff, Ty's post is a very good answer.
Truth is 2, I believe the "good guys" with good intensions, honest people and such - not many of them, especially on top of all places who make decisions for us all.
Truth is 3, Mankind sux badly, destroys planet and doesn't care for anything. But when it comes to tragedies, aaaaawwwwwwww, how good and solidar we are.
