As i didn't find anything about it here in the forum, please let me introduce to you one of the greatest outdoor adventure i ever try. We do this since years also with my friends, and my family.
If we travel to anywhere, before leaving home we check the web, and print out the places, what we have to visit. It was all time good fun.
Here is the video about geocacing:

Hahahah there have been like 5 caches in my street or surrounding streets in the last 6 months lol
I have heard about this in fact The Gadget Show a channel 5 program here in the UK has spoke about it many times, tho i have never given it a try.
After looking at the site you linked to i may even just give it a bash :)

Sometimes you can find very bi surprises in that close to you too :) One of my 1st cache was a 1000+ yrs old small church about 300 meters far from the road, what i use almost every day :) and i didnt even know about it before :)
Hmm... reminds me of Geohashing (http://wiki.xkcd.com/geohashing/Main_Page).
too bad i don't have a GPS... i guess i'll just use google maps?

I think the whole point of this whole thing is to draw people *outside*. :p I sorta don't like things like this because I don't like that it's nessacary for people to be lured outside rather than just going outside of their own free will. :p
I'm getting a new headunit for my car with navigation and the lot in it, and I *may* try it on one of these things, but only if I'm going out anyways :p

The chache boxes are usually simply everyday used waterproof plastic kitchen boxes in size around 20X20 cm.
2 things you always find in it:
- The cache note (http://www.geocaching.com/articles/geocachenote.doc)
- An the logbook.
Cache note (as you see if you click on it) is about the to explain about the box to those, who maybe accidentally find it.
The logbook is for those, who was looking for it. There you can find the password for the box, what will be the help to to register your find on the internet site.
Plus if other founder leave some, then you can find those presents. These are usually small figures (kinder surprise egg figures (http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2076/2256020660_0e5611db15.jpg) like), or small ranks, signs, key holders etc. If there are not too many in the box, but you have one, then better if you just leave it there.:) If the box is almost fully filled, then you can change yours to another one, what you like there. But this is not a must, but a can thing.

yes, you locate the co-ordinates with google maps, and then actually GO there... d'oh!

I actually found some of those by accident :). When i was in my quest for finding asparagus 2-3 years ago i found some like you mentioned. Ofc at that time i had no idea what that means, but i think its a nice idea of creating sort of log-books of people visits to the sites. To my surprise though, there were many foreign names there, and very very few domestic people inside, guess its not so popular here :).
Either way, the i could not find the box last year so my guess is that its gone for good :(

I did actually go to some of these locations, although it wasn't for the caches, and I didn't even bother looking for them. :p
There's a series of 6 caches in my area, which are called "The PhotoJourney 1-6", and I trailed those, even though I've been near them before, to see if I could spot some nice, new pictures. :) A mate and I have been having these phototrips where we head out together and take some good pictures, usually once or twice per month. So I suggested going these places, but we only covered about half so far, since the best pictures are at sunrise and sunset, leaving a limited window of time for driving around. :p
I'll share the pictures here. If you like them and wish to use them somewhere, please have the decency of asking me for permission. :)
It's basically just to inspire a little, and maybe to remind you that it never hurts to bring a camera with you, when you go out in nature like this, with no scheduele and no purpose :)
These are all taken at the location of some geocache (+/- 100m) :

An odd picture actually. I was looking to create the "storm"effect, but it was clear, not windy and around 12 degrees celcius, so it wasn't The Perfect Storm, but more like The Fake Storm :p

Zoomed in alot

Zoomed in a bit less

Not zoomed in. This was the location of a cache as well, nearby where I live, but I'd never even thought to run up on this hill and see this beautiful sight.
