Anyone else notice a wee lag in the arcade since it started snowing at sog-team.com?

if its not just me and it is the snow can it be removed from the arcade pages?

Its because the snow is a javascript function which the arcade & casino are also. This probably results in lag so I shall remove it from those pages now :)

cheers mate had a feeling it maybe a running script lag issue <:)

To be honest, I think the snow also slows down the forums. At least for my browser, after the snow animation is loaded, the scrolling and typing speed is dragged down drastically.

How about an option for forum style "with" and "without" that snow animation?

Well even if it's only for another week, I thought I should mention it right away for next year. ;)
It's just annoying that I have to write my posts in text documents on my desktop, then copy and paste them into the post field here on the forums. :p I don't know if it's that bad to anyone else here, and I think last year's snowfall on the forums didn't lag it down at all, but to me it's no-good - although it's a sweet thing to have, so still thanks to Matty-Matt I guess... <:p

You're right, it does. It depends on the internet connection as far as I can tell. I experience maybe 5% slowdown overall on my home PC, where as when I'm using my HDSPA modem pages take an eternity to load and I sit there getting older. <:p

We can make a seperate style for it, but we're trying to reduce the number of styles as every little change we make needs updating in every style, making it a vast amount of work.

Instead, I limited the snow to only appear on Forum Home (you might say, it's a very local snow shower), which should limit the slow down to that page only. I actually believe it was made that way last year too.

Let me know if that improves it or not? <:)

Oh okay, I didn't know it is so much work. I have no experience in forum databases and stuff, so excuse my selfish suggestion. ^^;

I just switched from "Original Blue" to "Pro Black" style before I read your post (since I thought the snow animation might be only bound to the blue style), and I just recognized no more snowfall - not even on the forum overview if that's interesting to you, Nico?
Anyway, loading time has decreased and scrolling through the forums works way better now! Thanks alot! :)

EDIT: No wait, after reading through the thread once more, the snow started again. o.o

Yea, apparently the whole plugin has been modified, so it now lives in the "Header" (which is run on every page) rather than in the body of the individual page, so enabling it for Forum Home only removed it all together. <:) I believe it's a fix Matt made to remove the Arcade issue.

I made a child-style to Pro Dark 09 called Pro Dark 09 (No Snow), which I will delete once the season is over to prevent it from outdating. Everyone experiencing slow-downs caused by the snow (recognized as slow and "choppy" loading and scrolling, lags of several seconds and lost ability to load more tabs at once) can select this style instead. <:)

well its always the last thing to load so maybe you aint on long enough on each page or your connection takes so long with the last wee bits of data you never see it :)

No, with the "no snow"-style, there is no snow for me. Before Nico made that style, snow was loaded in rather quickly, but now, when browser says "Page loading done", the snow is all gone in the forums to me.

You guys who are seeing snow, are you actually using "Pro Dark 09 (No Snow)" style?? Cause if you are not, then snow should be expected. <:p

Ok to clarify this Snow is still visible on the "Pro Dark 09 (No Snow)" style but ONLY on the server page.

On the Normal "Pro Dark 09" style Snow is visible on all pages apart from the arcade.

Now I get ya. <:)

Sadly that's not so changeable. The styles define the content of the pages, not the functions if you will. The snow is called a seasonal effect and is a plug-in to vB that can be turned on and off, but on the server page, the code where it includes that function into the page happens prior to any styles or content applied (even happens before loading the favicon and banner and such), so I can't sort that out using styles without doing some major moving around on the code, something I would prefer not to do as the Server page is page-in-page-in-page. <:)

So you'll have to do with just turning the snow off on all other pages but that one, as I think it's a little drastic to recode the server page for a once-a-year occurance, sorry. :)

Cheers for letting me know though, I must admit I hadn't seen that. :)
