Barack Obama wins the Nobel Peace Prize for his "extraordinary efforts" to build diplomacy and promote nuclear disarmament.

I agree with uryu on this one... maybe move this one to the discussions board? I find it an interesting topic...

Moved thread to Discussion forum so it can be discussed freely.

He hasn't done anything but "Talk... Talk... Talk & Oh yeah TALK some more!!" If that's giving "extraordinary efforts" then aren't we lowering our standards? Maybe it's just that has this thought... lol

I think he has made progress since he took office, he has one helluva a job given what that :sssh: :sssh: :sssh: :sssh: George Bush did in his 8 :sssh: year term (*cough* fix *cough*). Barrack Obama has started a reversal in the US isolationist doctrine, and has been a part of reducing nuclear stock piles.
Although he has talked about more than he has done I have to say

well tbh US has promised us (Poland) a lot if we endorse US war on Iraq and send our soldiers there - millions of dollars, military equipment, free transfers of military units from Poland to Iraq/Afghanistan, military support including medical/air/satellites/intelligence and many more, agreements for companies to work in Iraq, planes, offset agreements etc etc.... etc

for equipment we received we had to payed despite that equipment we got is nothing more than scrap, without active fight modules, tactical modules and weapon; there was/is nothing like support for polish soldiers it was mentioned - free transport i even dont speak about - and we have received nothing absolutely nothing but empty promises ..

now imo we should just take our units back from Middle East and leave this mess to US as it was started by US

for me US and every next US president is mawkish, double-faced populist

both: GWB and BO can go :sssh::sssh::sssh::sssh::sssh::sssh:

not to judge the high ranks here, but let's keep this discussion about the fact that BO got the Nobel, not about the Iraq war.

however, i can see how the lowering of nuclear stockpiles can yield a Nobel price, i think it shouldn't be given unless we see the actually decrease. (and with "we", i mean some sort of foreign government that checked it)

well it was on subject however maybe not very clear - in fact it has nothing to do with Iraq war but with what is done by US (in fact by US President) to what was promised

Noble prize for doing nothing but mess around the world is well... confusing at least imho

he didnt do anything to get this prize ...

What I have heard from Obama so far, has only been long talks. Only few actions...

Don't know why he got the Noble Peace Prize, because i haven't seen any difference... Maybe the future will bring something " peace " etc, lol

Well you can say what you think about Bush, but this isn't the thread to do so Delta. This is about Obama getting the Nobel and what ppl think about that.

If you wanna discuss bush and what he did/didn't do you may start a separate thread if it's really needed to start such a discussion.

I'm just as surprised as everyone here about President Obama winning a Nobel Peace Prize.

To quote the BBC News article:
An estimated 75% of comment sent to the BBC expressed surprise at the award. Some said awarding the prize to Mr Obama was plain wrong, others that the decision had come too soon, before he had made any concrete foreign policy achievement."

I think that pretty much summed up what I was thinking.

"His diplomacy is founded in the concept that those who are to lead the world must do so on the basis of values and attitudes that are shared by the majority of the world's population." "Asked why the prize had been awarded to Mr Obama less than a year after he took office, Nobel Committee head Thorbjoern Jagland said: "It was because we would like to support what he is trying to achieve".

"It is a clear signal that we want to advocate the same as he has done,' he said."

Well, it's nice and all that Obama is trying for diplomacy I don't think it deserves an award unless it's actually been achieved. I do however think that Obama is doing better than his predecessor so far. The Nobel Committee could give an endorsement for his work but granting him an award, ehm, it's a bit too much.

Well it's just that. They shouldn't be giving any awards unless something is achieved, in my mind he hasn't achieved anything but putting us further in debt and taking over private companies.

Well... I think we all agree it was a crappy decision giving this award to someone who hasn't done enough to deserve it. I mean... Having grand ideas and wanting to change things is one thing... Actually doing it, and having a good result in the process, that's what matters. Then again, the Nobel Peace Prize fell out of it's form when it was awarded to Yasser Arafat in 1994...

It's just another stupid award without real meaning anymore, or so is my personal opinion anyways.

Yeah I'm beginning to think that everytime I think about this.
