View Full Version : Music on profiles

I was wondering, and spoke with Tim about it - if it's not a problem to put a music, selected and managed by the user on his/her profile. So simply - when someone visits your profile, that person will hear music which you choose to be played. It can be just one song, or maybe more if it's possible, that's not important. It would be in a box for example, located somewhere on the profile. Those users, who wouldn't like to listen, simply would have that option turned off. If this feature would have some sort of limits when it comes to number of users, it could be available for Forum Vips+ only maybe?

Post away what do you guys think about it, and basically - if this could work out.

Please don't associate it with myspace  To be honest with you, the idea had nothing to do with it.

This could be easily done but depends what I can dig up...

Not a bad idea, thanks :)

I think it's a good idea as well. Why I told him to post it here so that if it could be done someone would know.

i thought about this once upon a time, i use once called mixpod.com, u select tracks, add to a list then copy the player code and add to ur website, like my space or what have ya. :)

We should be able to use something similar.

Yes, I'm sure that can be done, but there would have to be some modification done so the user can add it themselves if they want to use it.

If I knew how to do that I'd go ahead and make the modifications.

And if this will work someday; May just a Forum Member use it, or just only Members?

Lol if it's like that, I have to start making applications :p

Wow, apparently I missed this thread completely when it was originally made. It does sound like a great idea. One good thing about SOG is the amount of modification you can do to your own profile. It makes it easier for the rest to get to know you, and for you to express. yourself.. Helps creating a community, so, I'm all for it.

Its is good idea on soem conditions ...

If you need to start the music yourself or that there's a limit to songs because ...

1. if you open a profile and the music autoplays it takes much longer to load ...
2. we as mod/admin need to open more profiles as one and it's then a anoyance for us to close every music that plays ...

3. Most of all i would limit it to 2 or even 1 song because of room, everytime a member uploads a song to play it takes a lot of space ...

We can ofcourse do something else, we ca nadd a profile option to enter html from imeem or something but that can only be added by cl and higher it's more controlled and the space is used on imeem itself ...

Sierra

Sure Wes, I get it. An option without autoplay would be good too - when you visit someone's profile, you could simply start listening or not, up to viewer to choose. And sure, one song is enough alright, no need to make a music account out of it.

Tim

Well I think one song would be good, we could call it their "Theme Song".

I don't mind adding HTML to profiles if that's what we end up doing, if it's requested by the user themselves for it to be added.

Wouldnt it be possible to make it user-selectable (user can input him/herself) if we wrapped it in BBcode?

Example is that user types [themesong.mp3__] into an input field under Customise User Profile menu, and the forum then uses that as an {option} or {param} for a BBcode, thus turning the BBcode invalid if the content is not as specified? :) As I see it, that would stop the risk of injections using HTML, since if you do anything you're not supposed to, it simply wont play/execute? Or in a similar manner (but less easy to update) simply hardcode it into the page that content must be of type xxx, yyy or zzz to play).

I think that's the method I would prefer - number one being that the user would upload his music to the SOG site and making it only possible to use music from http://www.sog-team.com/forum/usermusic/* or similar. However, this way is very spaceconsuming, so the method mentioned earlier is more practical. :)

It is posible but you or matt have to do it then as i don't have the time for it ...
Also the ydo have to make a imeem acount or something similar to that ...
Let me know wich site gonna be used, there are a couple out there ...

Tim

Yeah or maybe you could put it so they have to enter a link to the music file on another site some where like Wes is mentioning, sounds a idea to me. Less work for everyone hopefully. :D

Update 2

In time of some changes on forum, like bbcode, clan rooster or site status, I reminded myself about this one. So I'm asking yet again, if we could add this little gizmo?

Wes

I think Matt or nico is a little busy, but it will also be considert also we have to find a good site to use ...

I don't mind attempting this at a later date, but for the time being, I am preoccupied.

I've had to write 7 reports in 7½ week, and my graduation examn is in a week. It's a two day examn, and it can contain any question in my compendium for the past 4 years. So I have to prioritize that and read alot these days. I may be able to work something out once I'm done. :)

Thanks for adding the feature, however it doesn't work? I've added three URLs with an .mp3-ending, and none of them will play. Are "_"s and "%"s not allowed in the URL?

I added a "clean" URL as well, still it won't work. :-/

I can hear your current file when viewing your profile.

My only thought would be browser & flash plugins. Are they enabled / up-to-date?

Oh? I'm sorry for my complaint then. ^^;

If it's about Flash, I think I'm up-to-date. Not too sure about browser plugins though. I'm using Windows Internet Explorer. Hmm, gonna check Microsoft website for updates then.

Ive done some tweaking. Try it now?

I can see the My Music Player on my profile page now, but it doesn't play. It keeps "Buffering...". :(

However, I'm able to hear the music on your profile, so I guess it should actually work. o.O

That's a nice tune by the way! :) I'll try relinking another tune on my profile.

Matt
18-03-10, 12:07 AM
Yes your current one also buffers for me. Try getting a slimlined version as the buffering will mean a large mp3 or the server it is hosted on is not responding / responding quick.

Asakura
18-03-10, 12:09 AM
Well the tune is less than 2MB in size, but I uploaded it on filefactory.com. Maybe they're too slow to buffer it properly - which is sad for a file upload website. :D

FINALLY it works. I went through like five MP3 upload websites, and none of them could do the job. No problem at all to upload images or videos these days, but MP3s...tough thing! o.O
