X-fire connection problem..

if i try to connect to xf, i just see "connecting to the server..." until the timer is over. so i cant connect to the server.

i tryed to:

restart pc -- still the same
reinstalled xf -- still the same

i dont know whats up. yesterday all was fine...

Delete all registry entry's with XFire,

Reboot

Okay, get on xFire, and I'll help you solve it ? :p Just kidding :D

As you have been able to make a post here, I would assume that you have your internetconnection working, thus it's a port or program issue. This is most commonly caused by firewall, router or antivirus, so if you haven't changed ports in your router, you need to look to the firewall or antivirus - even if you didn't change anything. Here's why :



* Xfire just auto-updated and I can no longer log in. I receive a DNS error or the connection times out. How do I resolve this?
This is commonly caused by security software after Xfire updates or is reinstalled. This is a security measure to prevent programs that have been altered from connecting to your network. Since each Xfire update replaces the .exe, security software views it as a 'new or changed' program.

Even if you previously allowed Xfire.exe in your security software, after each update you may need to re-allow the new version of Xfire on your firewall, anti-virus and other programs with 'permissions'. In some security programs you may need to remove the permissions for Xfire completely and reboot your PC. Your software should prompt you to allow the new version of Xfire.

Rebooting your PC after updating your permissions is usually a good idea since some security programs require a system restart in order for the new permissions to take effect.

If you have completely disabled your firewall and/or security software, please try re-enabling it and then make the appropriate permission changes (remove them and add them back) followed by rebooting your machine. Then try to connect again.

If you aren’t sure how to configure your permissions, please consult the online support or documentation that came with your security software for "allowing internet applications" or "program permissions".

In other words, open your firewall settings and remove the xFire program from the list, whilst xFire is closed. Then open xFire and answer "Allow" or "Yes" in the dialog that pops up from your firewall. If this still doesn't yield a positive outcome, proceed with your antivirus, but most likely, the issue is within your firewall.

If none of the above helps, you might have to troubleshoot the port settings, which can be a little tricky. :)

Well the port settings shouldn't be an issue as I've never had to do anything with ports to get Xfire to work for me. The anti-virus should see it as the same program and not block it, but that's possible I guess.

Hope you can resolve it, I don't have any suggestions other then what has been posted already.

all done but still the same.

nothing changed in the router. all the same. i also tuned off the firewall and norton to see if i can connect but still the same. my firewall alowes to use x-fire but i also gete a request all time if i start xf. it ask me if i alow it or not... i switched the settings in my fw and dont alowe xf. but all still the same. if i start xf i get a request if i alowe it to start or not..

i find one more intresting thing:
if i try to visit xfire.com it says me the time for connection to the xf-server is over. i cant visit the xf side. than i checked the report room and used a link to a xf video from a report. thats the only way how i can join the xf side...

i noticed that the most of my videos and pics are not anylonger on my xf profil..

Try this ...

Go in your x-fire folder and open teh file saying xfire.ini ...

There you see a Version=109 change that to 108 and it should autoupdate again ...

Also when i open your acount i still see your pics and vids there check your internet browser settings too ...

If you can't visit xfire.com and your FW settings are good then something is blocking Xfire, maybe something in your browser is blocking the site, but that shouldn't affect whether the Xfire program connects or not.

Did any updates happen on your PC between the time you could connect and the time you couldn't?

in the folder i dont find a file called xfire.ini or the like. i hate my vista because it hide the files witch i can edit. and the xfire.ini is such a file. hade the problem once whit the swat4 user.ini

in the swat4 folder i simply have to click the button (compatibilityfiles) in the headline and it showes me all this files but in the xfire folder there is not the button called "compatibilityfiles"... i have to check it. the file must be hide anywhere in the xfire folder but i dont know how i can find it..

i checked my browser settings. the xfire website works now..

if you cant edit dag it to you desktop be shuur to have a backup in the xfire folder on your desktop you can edit it then drag it back to you xfire folder maby that helps

When you update xFire it actually installs itself again, Tim - and some, actually most as far as I know, firewalls will act to this, since it's the same security issue as if a trusted program gets a virus or malware that changes the programs coding. Most firewalls react to this - those that doesn't have a serious breach. :)

What I find really strange is - if you can open a browser window, and type in www.xfire.com and that wont work properly, then that suggests some major issues. I think you should try Wes' tip, but if that doesn't work, I think you should contact xFire support, cause it sounds more and more like something weird happened to your account.

before i want to change the version to 108 i tryed one last time to login. and it worked. px helped me whit my pw as i had a problem but now all is fine. dont ask my why but before 2 hours it dont works but now it works...

anyway problem fixed...
