View Full Version : Call Of Duty 4 Modern Warfare 2!
Is to be released on the 05.10.2009!
I saw this game in action at the xbox 360 conferance and I was half impressed, it didn't look very exciting atall, 1st mission is in a snow storm the gun that was been used had a radar screen as a attachment or somthing of the sort wich I thought was rather easy gameplay.

@black... that would be nice :D
i'll buy it the day when it comes out :D
(someone said a store here *mediamarkt* has the game the first week for only €33 in stead of 55-60)
IW is not releasing any dedicated server software for MW2. Instead, there will be global hosted servers, administered by IW, which is the only way to play online.
What does this mean? You won't be able to have your favorite servers. Clan's won't have their own server anymore, their homebase. Most probably, multiplayer mods won't work too. There will be less servers, so probably you'll be less able to join servers with your friends, because they're full.
Most things about the Call of Duty 4 multiplayer will be gone.

So, if you don't want this to happen, you can sign this online petition to bring dedicated servers to Modern Warfare 2.
http://www.petitiononline.com/dedis4mw/petition-sign.html
EDIT: Read the spoiler for more info, copy-pasted from the petition:
As many of you are aware, a massive change to the upcoming title COD:MW2 by
Infinity Ward has been announced. The multiplayer element of the game has
been completely 'overhauled', with the following 'improvements':
- No mods/custom maps will be available. Infinity Ward say: "We're just
prioritising the player experience above the modders and the tuners", but
in fact they are taking away all the choice from normal players and
removing mods/maps completely. I don't know when any of them last played a
mod, but they don't seem to realise that there is more to them than
changing one or two server settings.
- No dedicated servers will be available. This means there will be no home
servers for clans, no server renting from companies like
GamingDeluxe/Gameservers.com, and you will be unable to start a public
server on your home PC. Of course, IW only chose to reveal all of this a
few days ago, so all the hosting companies believed they'd be able to host
MW2 servers for clients. A lot of money has now been wasted upgrading
server components to handle the new game, because of the total lack of
communication about the PC side of things.
- Game servers have been replaced by 'IW.net', which seems to be a network
entirely hosted by Infinity Ward. I can only see this leading to a
situation in which there are very few central hosting locations, so many
players will suffer high pings and frequent lag.
- Players will be able to join servers through matchmaking: there will be
no server lists as IW believe that players find them 'confusing', and only
use them to find servers with good pings. You will be matched up to the
'best server for you', based on performance (whatever that means), latency,
and the skill of the players on it compared to yours. Anyone seeking a
challenge against higher ranked players is going to be disappointed.
- Punkbuster has been replaced by Valve's VAC: this is not a bad thing, but
IW seem to believe it will completely remove any and all cheaters. VAC is
far from perfect, and as with any anti-cheat package, there are ways to
bypass the system.
- Any extra maps will come in the form of DLC from the company, which we
will need to pay for.
- IW think that this new monopoly of servers will help combat piracy, but
in fact, all it will achieve is less interest in the multiplayer aspect of
the game, and more illegal downloads to have a look at the singleplayer
campaign.
Infinity Ward would have us think that this has been done to improve the
'player experience' on the PC side of things, but it's more of a kick in
the face to the PC community who helped establish Call of Duty as a
franchise from COD1 (which was only released on the PC).
I had been planning on modding Modern Warfare 2 for a long time, and I've
promised many people that it would happen. Now they'll be let down as IW
try and turn it into a console game. For all their shortcomings, we were
happy with COD4 and COD:WAW - players could play where they wanted, modders
could mod, and mappers could map. Now IW seek to take that all away from us
by simplifying the game to a level any server admin would be ashamed of.
There is a petition for dedicated servers that has been running for a few
days now (currently at 120504 signatures), which has most certainly been
seen by at least one team member at IW. However, there has also been a
response to the outrage generated by the announcement which can be
summarised in this sentence: 'we think the community has been fractured
into different skill levels, and none of them are capable of deciding how
to play for themselves'.
So, to those of you planning to buy the game, I ask you to reconsider. This
game may look like a perfectly valid sequel to COD4, but in reality, it has
been stripped of everything the PC player base has held dear over the past
four games.
As for me, I'm open to suggestions as to where to go next. There is still
work on COD4 to be completed (Star Wars mod!) and I hear that WAW has
become much more player/mod friendly in the past few months. Valve also
seem to have a good idea of support when it comes to community development
in their games. Feel free to drop suggestions in the forums some time.

they will know it when the got players stop playing the game couse the can't make a own server or can't join a clan so the will make their own grave with this step. in my opinion.
I probably won't buy the game until they release the dedicated server software. Or I'll just stick to the singleplayer.

Basicly, what IW is doing is turning the PC in another console. They don't remember. Modding and dedicated servers are the number one things that made the PC gaming community this large.
In fact, they should know better. Most of them worked on Medal of Honor Allied Assault before they left 2015 to found IW. That was seven years ago. Nowdays, that game is still played. Why? It didn't have a great single-player story. The graphics wasn't spectacular. The balance was just like an average game. Then, why is it still so populair? Because the ability to mod it. Modders could change the entire game. Everything could be adjusted. Not a single server runs without mods. And nowdays, there still mods being made. Every day new mods are submitted to modding sites, every day people are playing these mods on dedicated servers.
Every day, new people are discovering this beautiful game.
The same goes for all the games in the CoD serie. CoD1: still being played, mainly because of the great maps and mods made for this game. Call of Duty 2: mods made this game complete. Some of them redefined the standards of gaming. The rats maps, the rifle servers, the Extreme+ mod... who haven't played a game with idea's, that originated in this mods?
Even IW copied some idea's from them. For example, the claymores in CoD4. They decided to put these in the game after they saw how much difference it made to the gameplay of CoD running the Extreme+ mod.
Oh... I can only hope they change their minds about this. Because PC gamers don't want to become like console gamers. If we wanted all this stuff, we'd go and buy a console. There's a saying about things like this: Never change a winning team. The CoD serie has always been a success on the PC. Nobody wants this change.
I've played the singeplayer. It's cool, but still, I still miss many features. Things like leaning etc.
Multiplayer: it's called failure. Let's get back to CoD4.
Well i just installed it and gonna watch wtf is that :) gonna edite massage after i play it wish me luck lolololol

I just had a chance for trying it in multiplayer.
So far I can say the game is quite nice, but the real problem is the players.
I mean if you are lvl 20 after one round....
for me, its the best game ever made!
Its not just a war game.. it has a great story!
Sure it depends on player taste but this game aint that good on my opinion as i hate that AI so much- your teammates rush in not killing enemy and enemy not killing your teammates just shooting you thats just fun yey but effects are nice even i would say awesome but still for me its not more than a holywood action 'movie' yea story fine and you just go in line to the end so actualy you just watching movie :)
game to play only once ill say :)
Bought it yesterday, but haven't tried it yet. Looking forward to that maybe at the end of this weekend. The gfx looks awesome :D
*cheers*
I started the game on hardened difficulty, didn't want to push it too much... But Orion is right. The friendly AI's are really dumb and bad at clearing rooms. You walk in with two team-mates, they walk past the badguy, and you automatically think it's clear, right? WRONG! The badguy is waiting for you around the corner, and plants a shotgun to your head. The game serves you a lot of surprises... But many a time I died because of stupid mistakes. But, lesson learned on most things.. And I think, the second and third run-through will be better.
Also, I might add... This game totally confuses you a lot more then the first one.
But, still, enjoying it a lot.
Haven't finished it, but will after the weekend. Have a good one folks.
More surprises will follow, I can guarantee. :)

BTW its photoshopped for a comp of codmw2 screenshots

To be honest, I don't mind the servers. No cheating for one... No annoying server rules... You go in, focused on doing the job, and it's fun... Love it actually.
I have yet to play many of the multiplayer modes, but this far I've tried Free-For-All, TDM, Domination. It's good old COD4 style... And no fuzz... I like the maps, even though I tend to suck in some of them...
Now, what is left is trying Spec Ops. Just waiting for nagi to finish the singleplayer.
I mean, without the AI's, this game rocks. :sunny: :P
Can't wait to try MP, especially coop. But as Selena points out, I'm gonna press through the SP first.
My verdict of MW2 so far is pure awesome. I've only played about 4-5 SP levels, but they have been really cool and franticly hectic. The ice/winter-map reminded me somewhat of MGS-style sneaking about, silently killing... I get goosebumps just thinking about it.
Don't understand what all the fuzz was about the terrorist-level though. So many people around the web made it seem like a terrible thing to do and a lot of people felt sick after it... I'm I among the few that can actually distinguish that this is just pixels on a screen and not a recording of sorts?! Anyway, it was fun, not so much disturbing.
I recommend MW2 for anyone who remotely felt good about MW1 :D
*cheers*
LOL
The terrorist map was fun enough because it was different. I mean, more of the same but "different" enemies. I can understand it if that person who got sick or found it disturbing barely survived a terrorist-attack. It could waken some memories that weren't of the best kind. But anyone who cannot relate to terrorists through anything but the news, should get a grip in my opinion.
A lot of people in the world are sick in the head, brainwashed or just used to killing. It's too bad, but it's a reality.
And, as nagi says... It's pixels on a screen! Not that it stopped me from bawling like a baby to 3 of the Metal Gear Solid games. *laughs*
Nah, the terrorist map is surely worth a play-through by any gamer who can distinguish between real life and games.
Oh.. And.. *cough* Am I the only one who knifed the wounded in the terrorist map? *laughs*
*looks around innocently* I didn't knife anyone *whistles* and I certainly did run out of ammo slaughtering those people... nope *cough*
Had some trouble with some of the cops though. I'm guessing it's gonna be hellish to get them all in Hardened skill.
I can see the emotional attachment to the pixels, especially those grouped together in characters :P And yeah... The MGS-stories are somewhat *cough* captivating.

Very little activity on the MW2 side of SOG. Pick it up people so I can join friendly SOG games when I come back.
While we're on the subject we could talk about guns and load-outs in MW2, what's missing, what's good and so forth.

Personally, I give the Remington ACR close to top remarks. The only bad thing about it is the low damage which is has negative impact on rapid close combat in the game. Fortunately, I got my shotgun and knife handy for that. ;)

Yesterday I ordered the game and it should arrive today.
MW multiplayer is awesome and the story of course but for me, I haven't completed the first one so the seconds story line may be little confusing... but still can't wait for the game :D
Nah, the storyline isn't all that confusing, you'll get into it real quick. I just focused on the action myself... The action and the graphics, so beautiful. The story will clear up later in the game. Look forward to trying Spec Ops. I like that. :D
I second that. The story clears up. I didn't remember much from MW1 myself, but the story kind of stands on its own. Ohhh... and the graphics. Sweet sweet. And the multiplayer is awesome, both COOP and online. One of my favorites on PC of 2009.
If no1 has this yet its a definite must buy :)
i have it on xbox and Ive 100% completion on veteran :p and multi player 187% ;)

There is a stimulus map pack coming containing two old Call of Duty 4 maps:
Crash
http://www.sealteam6clan.com/statsgen/cod4p/cod4_mp_crash.jpg
&
Overgrown
http://www.thelost1s.com/website/statsgen/cod4_mp_overgrown.jpg
Along with three additional new maps:
Bailout - A multi-level apartment complex.
Storm - An open industrial park littered with heavy machinery.
Salvage - A snowy junkyard fortified by stacked debris and crushed cars.
This will probably cost cash or xbox/ps3 points.

I don't pay for DLC's. So, no, I won't get it. ^^
Hey, if we want to play Crash, why not just fire up CoD4? ^^
It's not for sure that it will cost yet, but knowing producers now a days, they try to milk their cows until the skin is left on the ground.
I don't mind paying for DLC it it's good DLC. as I don't mind paying for a good game :) And if it's just 5 maps, 3 new and 2 remakes, then I can't imagine it will be all that expensive.

WOW! $15 (£10, €14, AUD$19) for 2 old and 3 new is pretty steep when you take into account that there are people who make maps for free for other games. There should be a little more content to it for it to actually cost money in my opinion.

Well MW2 is way more fun than BFBC2 to me. For some reason, whatever I try in BFBC2, it ends in death. I shoot at the guy, I die. I run from cover to cover, I die. And sometimes I spawn, I die. :D In MW2 I get either owned really bad or I own them really bad. I'm either #1 or #2 spot of my team or I'm the last one. Plus, the way I learned and liked to play shooters works rather good for MW2, but seems to be the wrong thing in BFBC2.
I enjoyed the free multiplayer time on Steam this weekend. Since I already played a free weekend a while ago, I was able to use my old callsigns, weapons and such. And for some reason - no idea why - I instantly levelled up from Lvl 31 to 70 after a game on Saturday. O.O I could go for Prestige now.
Still not sure about MW2 though. I've heard there are quite some cheaters/hackers around. Although I do rather good ingame, having cheaters around isn't a nice feature. Plus, the game is awfully expensive. o.O Steam goes between 50 and 60 euros, and one of the local game stores still is offering at 50€.
I don't know, I haven't made my mind up yet.
My time gaming on the 'puter has also been transfered from MW2 to BC2.
MW2 was a really good game and I enjoyed all the time spent there, even when I sucked, which was most of the time, but I'll still hold it close. Now that I've gone over to BC2 which really gives you the war-feeling, MW2 felt more like urban terrorism than warfare. I don't know, I just feel even more at home with BC2. Could have something do to with me finally finding a game where I snipe at a decent rate *grins*

As long as you don't give up on your plans, life goes on. And remember, computing-power can sometimes be more important then food
That's my attempt at motivational speaking anyways :p

Well but I was refering to MW1 and not MW2.
I noticed topic title wrongly says Call Of Duty 4 Modern Warfare 2 but COD4 is MW1. :P
I looked at COD4 in title and thats why I was asking about it.
MW 2 is COD6.

No mate the series is as below
COD4 : MW
COD : WaW (5)
COD : MW2 (6)
(5 & 6 both werent numbered in their tiles as the were both seen as sort of branch tiles or separte in a series if you like)
