Alright ladies and gentlemen. I will be hosting a LAN boot camp one day a week for training inexperienced players.

I would like everyone who have BF2 to read through this and post their interest in this type of basic training and I also need to know which day of the week would be good for you to train on.

I will be the head trainer in this boot camp of mine. Primarily the goal is for inexperienced players to have a fun in an educational approach to learning controls and game dynamics. Hope you are interested!

Questions and Answers:

There have been a lot of cancellations of trainings on the BF2 squad, how will this be different?

There will be a minimum of two players needed for the trainings, and so no training will be canceled. It is actually designed with a low amount of players in mind.

I don't want to be the commander or squad leader, so I hope some experienced players will participate. Can we choose roles?

This will not be squad based training at all as squad leaders and commanders are considered more advanced roles. The "BC" will look at simple controls for the most part. Some people (if not myself) will be appointed to be squad leaders simply to have an active spawn point so that trainings will be quicker.

I don't know any tactics and want to learn more about it, will you cover this in the boot camp?

Team play and tactics will be covered by the |SOG| squad. I will touch onto more individual tactics. Sometimes you are left to fend for yourself, and my goal is to make you all self sufficient soldiers on the battlefield.

I love being sniper! Can I be sniper?

Your individual preference is irrelevant to the trainings. For some exercises you will be required to use one particular kit, but all information will be posted prior to a training in a detailed briefing you will be required to read if you plan on participating. A small in-game briefing will be given for those with a lousy memory.

Will our individuality be considered in these trainings and combat?

As a newbie to the game, you don't really have the knowledge to decide which kit is beneficial, that is also my goal, to educate about advantages and disadvantages. In time, making you more prepared to deal with multiple different situations of combat. But, yes, individual input and perspectives are appreciated if they have an educational purpose.

How will we know what the trainings are about?

Detailed briefings will be posted a couple of days before the actual training day as well as given some information in-game.

Will the trainings be about one thing? Because to me it sounds boring already.

I can't promise you will have fun, you will have to do your part so that everyone can see the benefit and fun in it. The training has two to three stages. Depending on the amount of people showing up, the latter stages might not be possible. It will have a basic educational approach, then a more stressed combat situation where you will have to use what you learned.

I need to rack up points so I can rank up, is this a good reason to show up?

Some trainings will not allow you to shoot at your enemy at all, which means you won't earn any ranking points. So, I would definitively not encourage such attitudes. Disobeying cease-fire commands and other infractions will get you excluded from further trainings in the boot camp.

It sounds kind of cool, how long will this training be available to us all?

The basic training will be a short lived affair, at least with me as trainer. In February I will no longer be able to be trainer, and if no trainer will step in, then the boot camp will be put on ice until my return months later.

Will we be ranked on the trainings?

No such evaluations will take place other then from a training perspective. Those having more difficulty will be given more guidance, but scores are pointless.

How long will a training take?

I don't know yet. Depending on the interest and how many shows and the liking of the programs being held, it might be really short or for longer periods (stretching perhaps a couple of hours). I will try to keep the time down.

I don't think I'll be any good on the battlefield, and I'm afraid I'll be disappointing my team-mates with my noob playing, what can I do?

Those seeking in-dept guidance can ask me at any time for more personal and theoretical mini-trainings on an empty server when I'm available.

I think you're just the best, and I love your guidance. Can I bring you coffee?

Haha! No need to suck up to me. I'll grant anyone who wants to learn some time when I can, even if I like you or not. *laughs* And sucking up will not make me like you. Besides, I don't like coffee. *winks*

Any more questions? Feel free to post them. http://www.d50clan.com/forums/Smileys/CoD_Smilies/smiley.gif

This is something I absolutely need. My deathrate is largely to blame on my lack of skill in close-quarter combat and knowledge of the game/maps in general.

So count me in :sunny:

Any day of the week would fit me well. But I would ask for an earlier time then 22:00 (GMT+1).. Maybe around 20:00 instead?

Well, so far it's only me and you it seems. But I remember we had a blast running through lesson 3 to test it out. That reminds me I have to do some adjustments to the briefing so that it will be possible to do. Thanks for being the test-bunny. *grins* It was a blast to play with you.

I'll allow this thread to be open until Friday the 9th of January. If no one else has shown interest, me and you can play on LAN, nagi, and I'll run through all that stuff with just us. Remember to keep the suggestions coming. I'll find a fun way to approach the subjects. :sunny:

So far we have:

- Infantry 1 vs. 1 combat...
- Movement, Concealment and Parachuting...
- Spotting and car handling...

You know what. I just realized something! I can't use the SOG server for my trainings (as it's 16 players)! Oh MAN! That really sucks... I NEED a 64 player map for the second and third trainings. Gosh, I'm being an airhead. Oh well. I'll just have to host the server on my own and play it on LAN.

Thank you SOG for your help, but I won't be needing it except for some forum space. *grins*

Then I'll need to do some changes here...

Everyone will have to install a program called Hamachi (read about it on Wiki if you want) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamachi). Nagi and myself are using an older version of the program then what is available now, so if you want that .exe file, contact me on x-fire and I'll send it over. The file size is 895KB and the installed program takes 792KB of disc space. I believe newer versions are compatible with the older ones. It will allow you to play LAN games over the internet. Cool, huh? I will make a Hamachi group and invite those interested in the boot camp.

The Hamachi website. (https://secure.logmein.com/products/hamachi/vpn.asp?lang=en)

So, first training will take place on Friday at 20:00 GMT +1.

And so I'll just post the briefing:

1st. Training session - Infantry 1 vs. 1 combat.

Notes for this training:

The boot camp trainer(s) will be the spawn point of his or her team. Individuals may be asked to be commander to drop supplies and vehicles to aid the effectiveness of the training. Supplies will be placed away from the combat area.

This training will take place at the Mosque flag market place on the Mastuur-city map.
Prior to the training you will take auto-reload option off. You go into options, and it will show in general game options. You can adjust this setting while in-game. Everyone will be reminded to do so.

The MEC team will capture the Mosque flag and subsequently spawn on that flag. USMC will spawn on Trinity.

Stage 1:
Each team will line up, facing the enemy team, with a certain amount of distance between each other and the enemy line. The man or woman you face directly, will be your opponent. You will not engage any other enemy unless previously told to do so by the trainer(s).

http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t205/wok2/bf2/1sttraining1.jpg

Keep in mind that other enemies are firing wildly at times, so you might be caught by a stray bullet. You will ignore such happenings and you will fall back in line, continuing the training. You will listen to all commands issued by the trainer at all times.

On note from your trainer, all infantry personnel on the line will empty their primary weapons into the ground until their clip is empty (this will be repeated by you, automatically before or when you are on the line). You do not reload your weapon and you keep it in hand. The trainer will throw a grenade into the space between each team, signaling that the training has started and to attack your enemy. You will then draw out your secondary and close the distance between yourself and your target. You will use your secondary to terminate your enemy, and if you fail to do just that with your first clip, you will use your knife to take that individual out. You may not reload your secondary while in combat.

The kit used will be medic. Due to the simplicity this allows for the team to resurrect those killed and go back to the line to continue fighting when both are ready. Depending on the amount of players, there will be squad leaders to spawn on. Everyone will fall into line as soon as possible to continue training. Then you face a ready (on the line) enemy, and engage in battle once more.

If someone starts from the line without their primary out, they will be reprimanded.

Stage 2:
All enemies will be fair game by either pistol or knife, your choice. You are allowed to reload your pistol. You will know when this time comes by the trainer calling a ”STOP”, informing everyone of what will be happening, and then a ”STOP END”. When the stop end is called, everyone returns back to the line, reloading secondary, healing and holding the empty primary. The change here is that you can pick any enemy to engage. Kill your opponents, focus, remember not to get in your allies line of fire.

Do you see an ally in a knife-fight? Usually, it’s considered courtesy to leave knifing opponents alone to battle it out, then the man standing is fair game. You will have to choose yourself what to do in such a situation.

The objective:

The objective of this training is to practice switching between your weapons as it is faster to switch from primary to secondary then reloading your primary weapon. Also with this training you will practice hitting a moving target and handling a knife.

Communication during training:

STOP – Communicated three times on a row by trainer, effectively calling a cease fire and hold positions. Usually used to call attention upon changes in training, reprimanding/guiding trainees or proceeding into next step of training.
STOP END – Training commences.
READY – I’m ready to start combat and/or use the equipment ordered.

Suggested communication when on the line:
”X to Y, ready, over.”
”Y to X, ready, out.”

More communication will be added in later trainings.
In a successful team, good communication is one of the keys.

Good luck to you soldiers! http://www.d50clan.com/forums/Smileys/CoD_Smilies/smiley.gif

General Note: Some small issues might be adjusted. If so, a post will be posted to alert you of any changes prior to training.

As I mentioned to you before, this seems like a good exercise. I really need CQC-training. I tend to panic :$ So I'm looking forward to this.

Since there is no initial interest in this sort of training from the beginners, I'm closing the idea down for the time being. After my return towards the summer, a slightly more advanced training can be scheduled.

The offer of individual training still stands.

Trinity, out. :sunny:
